“Golf,” someone once said, “is a lot of walking broken up by disappointment and bad arithmetic.”
It was on a day of particularly rough math in 2002 (double-bogeys, three-putt greens and four-letter words) that my playing partner,
Brady Roberts, began griping about another set of numbers that simply weren’t adding up.
We were sneaking in a last round at our favorite course before Brady left town for vacation – a vacation, he informed me at least a half-dozen times before we’d completed the front nine, that was being financed entirely by the rewards points he’d racked up on his business credit card. “It’s too bad they don’t do something like that in golf,” he said. “How many times have we played this course without getting so much as a free pack of tees?”
By the time we left the clubhouse that afternoon, Straight Shot Solutions and its Golf Rewards program was an idea etched on paper (technically, bar napkins). Within nine months, we had developed a dynamic database that allowed our home course to track every round that every golfer played – and reward each for his/her loyalty.
Six years after that fateful loop, Straight Shot Solutions’ Golf Rewards program has been installed at nearly 70 courses – a figure that is projected to double by 2011. Some 49,300 golfers now carry a Golf Rewards course card, with more than 2,500 joining the free program every month.
They all have different stories, but their reviews have a common voice: Golfers love Golf Rewards because it’s easy – a mere swipe of the card in the pro shop – and because, like an online bank account, they can log on from home and watch their points grow.
GMs, pros and pro-shop staff rave about Golf Rewards because every feature – like the emails thanking golfers after every round or the Reminder Message that lures golfers who haven’t made an appearance in four-six weeks with double rewards points – inspires loyalty and gives them invaluable insight into their customers through a database unmatched by any in the industry.
We can’t do much about the bad arithmetic taking place all over your course; I would have shaved a little weight off my 14 handicap if it were that easy. But Straight Shot Solutions – a company created by passionate golfers for passionate golfers – will make the numbers on your bottom line add up very quickly.
